The 5 simple ways to keep your Maine Coon Enterntained

Your Maine Coon may be bored if your cat does not seem happy. There’s no denying it – Maine Coons do get bored when there’s not enough to do. If the cat is bored, he or she may become depressed.

Make sure your Maine Coon is not bored. When you have an indoor-only cat, you must ensure it is kept entertained while you are absent.

Always spend time playing with your cat when you are at home. A Maine Coon loves to play, whether it is indoors or outdoors, and regardless of its age. Believe me, there is no such thing as a grown-up Maine Coon.

You could call them cures for a bored Maine Coon cat… here are my top 10 suggestions.

1) give your Maine Coon plenty of space indoors

Maine Coons should be provided with a large amount of space to explore and run around in if they are kept inside. The Maine Coon should not be caged, even if it is confined in a certain part of the house. They are large, active cats who require plenty of room to move around the house.

It will grow tired of staring at the same four walls if you isolate it in a single space such as a kitchen. As cats like to watch the world go by, make sure to place it near a window so it can see out.

Let your cat use your stairs freely so it can get some exercise. Don’t block them so it can’t use them, but let it use them as much as it wants to.

2. Carton boxes

Boxes are too hard to resist for Maine Coons. A cat will emerge as if by magic and try to get into an empty one if you place one on the floor. I find that my dogs like to squeeze into smaller boxes more than larger ones. The feeling they get from squeezing into smaller boxes makes them feel secure.

As a hobby, my son enjoys tape-making tunnels with numerous entrances and windows out of several boxes. For the cats, he uses string toys to bat with their paws and establishes specific eating and sleeping areas.

A few years ago, he made a cat box and painted it bright blue inside. When our white Maine Coon jumped in before it was dry, I was more than relieved.

3. Pointing device with laser

Every age of the Maine Coon will chase a little red dot.  I encourage you not to purchase one of those dangerous lasers. It is possible for them to damage eyes even if they cast a red dot.

Your cat is not the only one who should not see them.  The laser dot will keep your cat entertained for hours when you move it across the floor and up a wall.

When your cat is not allowed to touch the dot, it will feel frustrated, so let it play with it every now and then. Let your cat see the dot and reward it by rubbing it against it.

Next, start walking along the ground towards your cat until you reach the bottom of the wall. Your cat should pounce and then abruptly move away so that your cat makes them chase after it. Especially for Maine Coons that live indoors, this is a great form of exercise.

4. Toys that resemble fishing rods

There are some that consist of feathers or toys tied to a stick with string attached at one end. Pet stores and online retailers sell them, but you can also make them yourself. A frayed string tied to a stick is a source of amusement for our Maine Coons.

Play with your cat while sitting in your armchair if you’re feeling particularly lazy. Additionally, if you would like to get some exercise yourself, you can chase your cat with one around the house.

Do not think that you should spend a great deal of money on these. There are some great ones on Amazon that cost hardly anything at all – for instance, you need look no further than this.

5. Hanging toys/mobiles

Hanging toys/mobiles

You have two options to choose from. It has colored glass pendants that hang from it and are hung high so that when the sun shines, colored light is reflected on the ground when it is overhead.

It creates fascinating shapes on the ground that will captivate your Maine Coon. When the mobile is swayed by a breeze, the shapes will dance on the ground and your cat will chase them.

Other types of mobiles resemble cots. The toy should be hung so your cat can play with it while turning on its back. There should be no openings in your cat’s cage that it can get its head through. Use short strings with toys attached.

A Christmas decoration hangs from Harry’s ear above.

In closing...

This list is meant to inspire you. You should keep your Maine Coon entertained.’””entertained.’””entertained.’””Kittens love to play, especially Maine Coons, who think of themselves as kittens. My two 14-year-old kittens are proof of that claim!
